DIRECTED TO: ROLO LAMBEROUGE LISTED CRIME: SERIAL MURDER.
The Council has selected you for sentencing to atone for the above-listed crime. You are directed to turn yourself in within two (2) hours of receiving this message, or you will be forcibly detained. You are to meet the Council's representative outside of City Hall in order to respond to this summons.
[There's strong temptation to just ignore the message because he doesn't give a single shit about the Council's authority and he's confident he could deal with whatever forces are sent for detainment. But it'd probably make more of a scene than he'd like, and it might be useful for information gathering purposes anyway.
[There's no attempt to put on an act, since these people clearly know all about him already. Rolo doesn't answer Jerry, instead just giving him a thoughtful once-over with a flat expression before heading inside.]
[His expression remains cool and unflappable as he follows, glancing around subtly to take in as many details as possible.]
I don't generally deal with problems by talking.
[That's Lelouch's game. He only goes for acting as much as is necessary for whatever job he's been assigned, and most of the times those are much more straughtforward.]
[Rolo won't remember much after Jerry closes the door and the room goes dark. He may remember feeling judged, and voices from people he can't remember the faces of. He doesn't remember much, but he does remember the most important part:]
Choosing to remain aloof to the suffering of others is a weakness. Your task is to form bonds that do not rely on the people you have come to depend on during your life.
You have until March 8th to finish our task. If you complete it, you will be one step closer to returning home.
[When Rolo becomes aware again, he's outside of City Hall, without Jerry as an escort.]
[ooc: The longer he goes without doing his sentencing, the more he will have trouble (and later be unable to) seeing, hearing, or interacting with the people he is closest with. If he fails to complete his task by the date given by the Council, he will be penalized for the next event. You may turned in either finished or in-progress threads oocly to the NPC inbox, or just straight up say "yeah my character isn't doing this."]
[It's crazy disorienting to have lost time like that. Is this what it's like for people he uses his Geass on?
But he can't even dwell on that thought, because he remembers that sentencing somehow despite the lost time, and there's an aspect of it he needs answers about. Rolo immediately tries to head back into City Hall to get back to that room.]
["Respectful" probably isn't the word for it. The glare he whips around to face Jerry with certainly doesn't feel all that respectful. ]
Are you asking me if I want to be dead?
[He says it incredulously, like it's a stupid suggestion. Frankly, it is. The fact that he'd willingly gotten himself killed didn't mean he'd wanted to die.]
[He'd accepted it when it was all he had. But clearly, there are other options now.]
Having something worth dying for and wanting to die aren't the same thing. Why bring me here at all if I'm just supposed to go back to that in the end?
[That appears to give him pause. He hesitates. Reincarnation might mean a new life and a future, but someone had already promised him that once before.]
I... I just want to be able to stay with my brother.
Reincarnation isn't impossible, but it's earned. Most sorts of religions from your worlds require it, too.
[a beat.]
But if you're speaking of the brother who's here... I will warn you of the one who lost someone dear to him after he failed his own Sentencing. Not directly because of it, but because of his penalty. If nothing else, consider that warning.
[It's a warning that feels more like a threat. Fury sparks into a blaze in his glare, and his hand twitches for the switchblade in his pocket. It'd be so easy. Even if that one person was right about this guy being able to teleport or whatever, he can't do that if under the effects of the Geass, right?
But there are others on the Council presumably. Killing this one wouldn't fix things, it'd just leave him without a source of answers.]
You're saying my only options are dying, losing him here, or losing him by getting reincarnated?
I'm not asking for the world. It's a yes or no question. Are you saying those are the only options?
[He doesn't yell, but his anger is a simmering sort of thing, an undercurrent of controlled rage that threatens to boil over if not carefully managed.]
And if you're just the messenger, then who am I supposed to go to with any issues?
You're asking to change your fate so that you could be with your brother. Humans are good at making their own path, so... it's possible you may forge something else.
[the boy do be getting angry...]
No one. I'm the only point of contact to those that brought you here.
[He's angry, but there's frustration edging into it too. It's so easy to imagine any number of possibilities he'd be happy with. He'd accept anything if it allowed him this one small thing. Why is that too much to ask?]
If that's too much to ask, then...then why can't we just stay here? Why is that only part of the penalties or whatever?
[If doing their stupid sentencing shit will just get him sent back in some form, but not doing it might somehow cause him to lose Lelouch, then he's being screwed over either way, isn't he?]
[Rolo's brows only draw together, agitated and uncertain, inverse to Jerry's. Hope you feel good about upsetting a kid so much, old man.
But he's not a talker, and there's no action he can take here to quickly and efficiently deal with this dilemma. Rolo holds his stare a few moments longer before it finally cuts away.]
...Fine.
[He asks for so little. He'll accept even the smallest bit of hope.]
The Council has selected you for sentencing to atone for the above listed crimes. [He can't say he wasn't somewhat expecting this, but it does make him wanna call bullshit. Still, there's no point in arguing over the network about it. Rolo doesn't respond, instead just heading over to once again meet Jerry at City Hall with an unamused expression.]
You know it was self-defense, right? If the Council knows so much, they should at least know that.
Then you'd have just given me a hard time about hurting him or restricting his freedom or something instead.
[It's more a muttered complaint at this point. Clearly, he views this as more opportunistic jerking people around than anything based on an actual moral code.
[Rolo does not appear at all satisfied with that answer. But he also doesn't expect to get anything better out of this guy, so he just hits Jerry with a flat stare for a few seconds before turning back to the door.
Still, he hates the thought of going into this for more of the same bullshit and coming out with no new information to show for it. So...he might as well try. The moment the door opens, he activates his Geass at a large range, hopefully enough to encompass the room beyond and whoever – or whatever – is inside it.
For ordinary people, at least, the perception of time freezes.]
[everything pauses. even Jerry freezes in place when Rolo uses his Geass.
the room is empty, but meticulously clean. there doesn't seem to be any dust... but there's no sign of any use, either. no worn out seats. no drink rings from cups. no papers... nothing.
it's only like that for a moment, and then the room goes dark. he may remember feeling judged, and voices from people he can't remember the faces of. he doesn't remember much, but he does remember the most important part:]
You, who have committed the crime of murder have come to stand before us to atone for your crime. To show commitment to rehabilitation, we have a request:
To atone for your lack of respect for human life, you must work with those who assisted you in the murder of Nikolai Gogol to explain to the rest of the Chosen why murder is unforgivable. How exactly you accomplish this task is up to you.
You have until July 13th to finish our task. If you complete it, you will be one step closer to returning home.
[when Rolo becomes aware again, he's outside of City Hall, without Jerry as an escort. the paper with his crime on it will be updated to reflect this task.]
[ooc: the longer that Rolo takes to complete this task, the more he'll be haunted of death in his dreams and via hallucinations in his waking life.
the thread or post of this action may be OOCly submitted here. failure to follow through on this task will result in a penalty for your character in the next event.]

On time. It's much appreciated.

instead, he finds a door in a hallway and opens it for Rolo, motioning for him to enter.]

He enters unceremoniously, making note of where they are in the building and which door it is. Could be handy in the future, who knows?]

Murder is still murder.
